A bridge to far
Hua Hin Full Moon Hash #7
Thursday 5th January.
Queens Park Hua Hin.
Hares Penny Lame & Knockout Neptune.
Was it a bridge 2 far?
An International flavour to our Full moon Hash this month, with visitors from far off lands of Karachi (Flat feet) and Germany (sleeping Beauty) word spreading about our friendly little Hash!
A pleasant location past the king's Palace in a small park next to the sea (Queen’s park)
With the Full moon shining on us our moonies started to arrive. Water and beer on ice, snacks ready, ready steady go!
A slightly different trail was announced with a runners trail, because of a poor recce by the hares that missed a 10 ft deep ditch which was dangerous to cross. Unknowing that the Trail was a little longer because of 2 bridges that had to be crossed around 7.5 km.
The pack was sent North parallel to the beach, but not for long as it was a false trail, something for the pack to think about, down some narrow dark roads with checks, and back towards the beach, twisting and turning, past some impressive houses and condos, then low and behold a Field? Thought this was a town run! Across the field and over the first bridge to Hua Hin Hospital! “Why are we going here?” but a sneaky left turn through a gate took the pack south again, into more false trails and checks, winding 3 km to the beer stop with Penny Lame and Penny Pincher waiting with cold beverages. 40 minutes a slow pace but walkers and running arriving at the same time with bloodshot eyes and coughing, They had all been caught by the delights of food stalls and chilli wafting in the air.
The beer stop was well placed as this was the walkers and runners split, walkers taking an easyroute south, with the runners heading across a dark field again, but looping north along the railway tracks, now they know why they were given torches! But a bit of misplanning because the runners had chalk to break checks, but the walkers came to the merge first then a flurry of checks and false trails, good practice for the walkers, but they couldn't mark them so the runners would have to do them also.
Zigzag was the name of the game heading south to the 2nd bridge, over and heading home but another FT to fool them, Then along home straight, was a close call but the front runners managed to get home first, easy off in 1st followed by her loyal bite mark, then black buttocks, scrotum head, flying frog and african queen,a great run by the visitors flat feet and sleeping beauty, then our regular moonies ding a ling, rambling rose, tinks, max factor.
Time was pressing on as we had to be to the Navy Club, so beers were served and snacks devoured, and a quick circle by Knockout Neptune, grilling the visitors and getting a resounding 10/10 for the run. And announcing our New orange T shirts would be for sale for 300 baht.
So we made a convoy to the Navy club with our table on the sea wall, with sea shanties about old hashing days, stories about smelly durians and other waffle.
Another successful Full Moon Hash, as the saying goes “ you had to be there to believe it”
